As we prepare to reopen in spring 2022, meet the team behind the Hands on the Past project breathing new life into CSI: Sittingbourne.
Since October 2021, work has been ongoing to shape the shop unit into Sittingbourne Heritage Museum’s new home with CSI as an in-house conservation lab, led by Dana Goodburn-Brown. As with most things, the project has been hit by delays due to Covid, but in January we finally welcomed the new team! With a mix of historians, conservators, and museum professionals, the team will be diving in with all aspects of the project, from our DIY renovation to public events. Over to them to introduce what they’re excited about with CSI.
Meet the Project Team
“I’m most excited about giving young people the opportunity to see conservation in action and see objects from the past. This project is a brilliant opportunity to get more people inspired to explore careers or volunteering in Heritage/Conservation which they might not have known about before!”
“Though Covid has put a dampener on the project so far, it will be really enjoyable to learn about conservation and I am looking forward to taking part in the project in the coming months!”
“I am thrilled to be a part of CSI Sittingbourne! 2022 is going to be a great year for the project, with some exciting events already in the works. I can’t wait to meet all of you, and share my love of History & Archaeology.”
“As an accredited conservator, I am very excited to be part of the Hands on the Past team at CSI: Sittingbourne. It will be great to see the new museum space developing; creating a new exhibition space, in the Forum shopping centre, for Sittingbourne Heritage Museum, with an in-house conservation lab open for the public to engage with. I cannot wait for the doors to open to the public. We have lots of exciting workshops planned too!”
“With my background in community engagement, I’m looking forward to the opportunity to be part of this unique conservation/museum project with its focus on being open for the local community to use and explore. I’m excited to see how much progress we can make with the new space and team members this year, to bring conservation and heritage science to more people.”
