Seeing the Google doodle today I see that x-rays are 115 years old today. Happy birthday x-rays! X-rays can be really useful for conservators working with most any type of material, but particularly archaeological finds, and they have been used extensively during the work in the CSI: lab. You can read more about the use … Continue reading Happy birthday x-rays!

more pictures
Just a few more pictures from before. I am not David Bailey, so please forgive the quality - at least my finger isn't over the lens though, hey? Also, a link to Steve Pollington's web page and The English Companions. These are also in the new 'Links' section, along with some other sites that might be … Continue reading more pictures

surprise visit
Sorry this post is a bit late in coming! A few months ago I picked up an incoming link from Da Engliscan Gesiðas (The English Companions) Gegaderung discussion forum and visited it to see why it had linked from there. Some of the members had found out about CSI: Sittingbourne and were debating what the 'mystery object' could be. I contributed a bit to the … Continue reading surprise visit
Digging for Britain (2)
This has been mentioned briefly on this blog (...and should have had a bit more coverage at the time!) but CSI: Sittingbourne appeared on the four-part BBC2 series 'Digging for Britain' with Dr. Alice Roberts. It was a really great bit of coverage for the project and hopefully enligtened a few people to whats going … Continue reading Digging for Britain (2)
Mario
I think Mario is worthy of his own post on here. He has shown enthusiasm with his comments elsewhere on this site and has sent us a couple of his articles and letters to the lab all the way from Italy. It is really appreciated, and it is nice to have a bit of interest from further … Continue reading Mario
Fingerprints…
This iron knife from grave 168 has been cleaned by volunteer Shirley. The grave was that of a male and other finds included a shield boss with fittings and a second knife. Although quite a small find, the object has presented several areas of interest for the volunteers, conservators and archaeologists. As mentioned in … Continue reading Fingerprints…
Digging for Britain
Coming up on BBC2 in the next few weeks will be the appearance of CSI: Sittingbourne. Digging for Britain, hosted by Dr. Alice Roberts of Time Team, Coast, Extreme Archaeology and Wild Swimming fame, follows a year of archaeology in Britain, joining up the results of digs and investigations from all over the country. CSI: should … Continue reading Digging for Britain
CSI: LEASE EXTENDED
The lease for the premises of CSI: Sittingbourne (located in The Forum) has been extended by owners Tesco. If other funding can be gained then the CSI: lab should be around for at least another 6 months, enough time to complete the other half of the finds from the site. It also gives all those visitors that … Continue reading CSI: LEASE EXTENDED
The Guardian
Finally we have been featured in The Guardian! The article, written by Maev Kennedy, was featured on Monday 16th August. It has provided a nice bit of publicity for the CSI: project and has sparked a bit of debate on the subject. Have a look at the comments here and add your two penneth! You can … Continue reading The Guardian
